This image is based on a true story, found in Mark Derr's book, "A Dog's History of America." I sketched the basics of the drawing on a piece of paper next to the New York Times article, I'd just read describing the story. The Apaches were forced to Florida and their dogs were not allowed to accompany them. The dogs chased the train as it pulled away from the station — one dog chased for twenty miles.
